Take me to SCFAI

Preparation

Remission is the final TIP™ phase, this is when your child reaches Food Freedom!

Once you have reached Remission, your child can eat like a non-allergic person. We do require annual visits so we can continue to monitor your child’s system and adjust their maintenance plans as needed.

What are the things to look forward to in Remission?

Weekly Dosing

The struggle with daily dosing is coming to an end at last! Your provider will instruct you on your transition away from daily dosing to weekly dosing. Remember that as dosing moves to weekly we are testing and transitioning your child’s immune system to be able to handle normal variations of exposure in their diets. Remembering to continue weekly dosing is always challenging, so setting aside specific days for dosing can be helpful.

End of the Rest Period

Generally, after one month in remission the rest period will be a thing of the past. You will be able to play, exercise, and do anything you want at any time!

Weaning Medications

Your child was likely on an antihistamine during their treatment and Flonase for some children as well. While they may still use these medications as needed, for TIP™ purposes they are no longer necessary. We recommend continuing these medications until 3 months after they successfully pass their Remission visit, then drop down to half the dose for 2 weeks, then half dosing every other day before stopping for a smoother transition. If you are on SLIT your provider will review the treatment recommendations.

Scenario kits

Your anaphylaxis scenario kits can now be condensed so you only have to carry Benadryl and Epi-Pens with the remainder of scenario 3 at home. Now is a good time to make sure these medications are not expired and get a new prescription since we don’t expect to see you again for one year.

Preparing for Remission Visits

Bring a list of questions

Congratulations, you’ve achieved Remission! This can be overwhelming for many families since you’ve been working towards this day for a long time. We recommend bringing a list of questions to your Remission visit 1 appointment so we can help you prepare for a life of true food freedom.

Share your story!

Your child worked so hard to reach Remission and is an inspiration to others! We would love to hear your story, hear about your struggles, and learn about how TIP changed your lives.

Remember to update your contact information

Because we won’t be seeing you for one year, remember to update your contact information. We will be checking in to see how you’re doing!
