What's Next?

What information or recommendations will I receive at this visit?

The SPT results
During your On-Boarding visit you will receive the results of your skin prick test. This is not the only source of information we use to create your child’s treatment plan, so please do not change your diet at this point unless you are specifically instructed to by the provider. We will recommend changes to your diet after we get the rest of your results and the plan is developed.

Anaphylaxis plan
We believe that all patients with food allergies should have an action plan. You will be given an anaphylaxis plan for your child in the event an accidental exposure occurs. Please educate your family on what this plan is. Watch the following video to learn more about what steps you should take in these situations. Please note that plans will vary based on age and allergen profile. The plan you receive will be specific to your child and prescriptions will be provided. Please fill the prescriptions for your plan now.

Medications

Non-Prescription Over the Counter Medications and What They Do

Benadryl is an anti-histamine used for allergic symptoms. Claritin a long acting anti-histamine used for allergic symptoms. Pepcid is a histamine-2 blocker used to mitigate allergic symptoms. Activated charcoal acts as an absorbent for potentially ingested allergens.

Prescription Medications and What They Do
Zofran is a medication used to treat nausea. Prednisolone a liquid oral steroid. Ora-Pred is a dissolvable oral steroid used to prevent prolonged or biphasic allergic reactions. Tagamet is a liquid histamine-2 blocker. Epi-Pen or Auvi-Q are epinephrine autoinjectors used in the treatment of anaphylaxis.

Preparing for Launch

The next visit is your Launch visit. Launch visits are 2-5 days in length, depending on your child’s treatment plan. On the first day your child will complete a skin patch test. The patch contains physical food allergens that will be placed on your child’s back and remain there for 24 hours. This allows us to assess how your child’s GI tract reacts to various allergens.

To prepare for this day please bath or shower your child the night before or morning of the patch day appointment. Please avoid applying topical creams, ointments, or oils to the back as it can prevent appropriate adherence of the patch to the back area. For this test you may be on or take antihistamines as these will not affect the results.
