Take me to SCFAI

Preparation

During this phase of your program your provider will encourage you to try something new one day every week! Work on stopping the habit of reading food labels, eat cross-contaminated foods, and enjoy the final step towards food freedom.

Getting Ready

What do I need to do to be prepared for this visit?

Reach out to us
If you are noticing any symptoms please reach out to our providers at TIPhelp@tpirc.org for support. We are here to support you and your child.

Reflection
Take this time to reflect on how far your child has come!

Why should my child be looking forward to Tolerance Visits?

The day of exploration
Tired of the old daily dosing routine and ready to try something new? We are excited to introduce you to what we call “the day of exploration”! During this phase in your program your provider will encourage you to take one day every week to try something new. This might mean taking a day off or trying a new food product with micro or macro amounts of your primary allergen. You can also eat foods that are cross-contaminated. Ask your provider for more details. Get out your grocery list and let us know what you want to try!

The end of recommended foods
With a successful transition into Tolerance, the good news is that recommended foods will be a thing of the past! And although we always encourage a healthy snack, these foods will no longer be an important part of your TIP™ program. There may be certain nuts listed in recommended foods that will need to transition to as tolerated or maintenance foods, depending on your child’s primary allergens that will be discussed with your provider.

First movement to weekly maintenance
During Tolerance you are ready to start moving some of your maintenance foods to weekly dosing. Your provider will review which foods these are for your child. Unfortunately, not all of your foods will move to weekly at this time, but it is a step in that direction. You have done a great job at daily dosing so far, but weekly dosing can be tricky since it is easy to forget something you don’t do everyday. Consider picking a day of the week for these proteins to make it easier to remember. Since you have worked so hard to get here, remember that routine exposure is key in keeping the Tolerance you have built up during your program.
