Inside your anaphylaxis treatment kit, you may find different types of medications that can come in many forms, such as an injection, tablet, or liquid. Understanding how and when to use is important. Let your provider know if your child has any health changes or if you have any questions.
*For ages 6 and under or dairy-allergic patients
– Sit down and lie down
– Benadryl Liquid (12.5mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– Tagamet Liquid (300mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– Observe for signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis for SIX (6) hours, if any are present proceed to Scenario 3
– Sit down and lie down
– Benadryl Liquid (12.5mg/5ml) – Dose given every 8 hours for 24 hours
– Tagamet Liquid (300mg/5ml) – Dose given every 12 hours for 24 hours
– After consultation with On Call Provider, dose activated charcoal
– Observe for signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis for 24 hours, if any are present proceed to Scenario 3
– Sit down and lie down
– Epipen dosed in the outer thigh, write down the time, repeat it in 10 minutes on opposite outer thigh if not already in front of a doctor
– Benadryl Liquid (12.5mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– Tagamet Liquid (300mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– Prednisolone (15mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– Claritin Liquid (5mg/5ml) – Dose given once
– After 30 minutes if not with medical assistance, 25-50 grams of activated charcoal
To ER or a doctor’s office for evaluation – will likely need a 5 day course of treatment
